any imput as to how kubota stacks up against the other brands new holland, john deere, kioti etc looking to make a one time purchase and keep the tractor forever!!!!

I looked at both the Kubota 3010 HST and the JD 4300 HST. I found that both appeared to be well constructed, but there were a couple of things that caused me to lean toward and ultimately buy the 4300. First, I didn't like needing to use a clutch to engage the PTO. The JD has only a lever for engaging the PTO. I found the loader much easier to detatch/attach on the JD. Finally, I couldn't figure out how I would use the turn brakes on the Kubota. Both the turn brakes and the HST pedal are on the SAME size. Deere has theirs on opposite sides so the user can push the HST pedal with one foot and activate the turning brakes with the other foot. From a longevity perspective, I'm guessing both will last forever if taken care of. Good luck. Steve ....

Kubota has the most market share for a reason. They have an enviable service record. They make most of the components and they are a very stable company. No they are not the perfect tractor but at least you know who will make the machine from year to year and you know who will own the company next year. Company stability means a lot. Look on the other posts and read about the trouble issues . Judge for yourself but first go check all brands out. Do not be too closed minded either. I researched my 1 in a lifetime tractor for 2 years. I drove the local dealers crazy I'm sure but after i bought my Kubota L4310 GST i have absolutely no regrets. Great machine and I couldnt be happier. Happy Tractoring!!! ....

Purchasing a compacy tractor is very important and thier are lots of factors to consider. The kubota of yester year were very robust due to the use of cast iron engine blocks and transmission housings this gave them inherent strength. More and more manufacturers are now using alloy housings and rolled steel front axles i.e. the ST30 oh and don`t drill into the subframe as you will lose rather alot of hydraulic oil. So look for a tractor as close in construction to an old MF135 and you won`t go far wrong and if does go wrong it will be dead easy to fix. Without a seperate PTO clutch how do you feather in the drive for high inertia machines i.e. heavy duty flial mowers. I would go for a N/H as the tractor is good enough for N/H, Ransomes, Honda and of course Shibaura. ....

Jonathon you have a good point about the PTO clutch type. I have to admit that i still have my doubts about not having a dual stage clutch. But still I remember what Fiat , who i believe now owns New Holland did to Allis heavy equipment. It was not a pretty picture. Please correct me if I am wrong and I hope for your sake I am. I still like to know who made my stuff and who will be makeing it. Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill. Just another opinion. Enjoy your tractor I sure do mine!!! ....

Kubota makes great tractors. For a given horsepower they seem to be a little smalller and lighter than the competition, if that is a factor. Like one of the other posters mentioned, I was a bit worried by the brake and HST pedals being on the same side but it never has been a factor. From this board it would seem that the NH Boomers are very well thought of. The JD's seem to be good but have had problems. If I was you, I would test drive them all and choose the one that fitted me best keeping in mind that a good dealer is worth his weight in gold. So choose one that is close, has a large spares inventory and that you think will be around for a while. I don't think you can go too far wrong with any one of the major brands if it meets your present and future needs. Happy tractoring and welcome to the club. ....
